The Sophomore EP, Out Now

Lemon Days, the sophomore EP from JonPaul Wallace and Bryan Hugo Iglesias (out October 15th), is a testament to resilience, growth, and the power of collaboration across distance. Written during Iglesias’s first year in Los Angeles while Wallace remained in Detroit, the project reflects the challenges of creating in separate cities—yet instead of pulling them apart, the distance only made their bond stronger. Frequent visits and relentless dedication kept the music alive, transforming the miles between them into fuel for reinvention. Inspired by a lemon tree in Iglesias’s backyard, the EP symbolizes new beginnings, bearing fruit from a season of change. Entirely self-produced, mixed, mastered, and visually directed by the duo, Lemon Days stands as proof that creativity thrives even when tested—and that Wallace and Iglesias are building a world wholly their own.

Track 1: “Lemon Days

The title track of the EP centers on the idea that real change begins with decisive action. It reflects on growth, transformation, and the courage to break free from limitation, with the metaphor of a blue bird leaving its cage symbolizing renewal. Sonically, the song blossoms with lush stacks of vocal harmonies layered over analog synths and vintage keyboards, culminating in a psychedelic breakthrough that feels both expansive and liberating.

Track 4: “Honey

“Honey” drips with the undeniable chemistry of newfound attraction, sweet and irresistible in its pull. Track 5: “One Moment

Born from witnessing a drive-by shooting, “One Moment” reflects on how a single choice or fleeting instant can alter the course of life forever. The weight of this theme is heightened by its raw, lo-fi sonic character—drums and keys sourced from a 90s Casio keyboard lend an intimate grit. Wallace’s one-take lead vocal, drenched in room tone, contrasts against tight, polished harmonies, creating an emotional tension that underscores the fragility of life’s moments.

Track 6: “Loving You

A glowing ode to the bliss and security of true love, “Loving You” offers a refreshing perspective in pop music by centering the joy of healthy, long-term relationships. Written in May 2024 in Detroit, it was the first song created for the project. Musically, the track transforms processed vocals into a melodic lead, weaving them with analog synth brass, slap bass, and a hybrid of acoustic and electric drums to create an irresistibly euphoric groove.

Track 7: “In My Head

The EP closes with “In My Head,” a track that exists in the tension between euphoric new love and the ache of distance and longing. Co-written with LA artist Jax Anderson, it captures the bittersweet duality of joy and sadness that comes with having someone to miss. Stylistically, it swells into a dynamic mid-tempo indie rock anthem, where pulsing synths, strummed acoustic guitars, and steadily building drums carry Wallace’s soaring, virtuosic vocal delivery into cathartic release.
